Love Notes from God on the fires of the altar….

I just received this note from a friend. I had asked her to pray for me about some personal challenges. Her response,

"Continuing with the physical body metaphors-  I don't think any of us realize what heavy lifting some aspects, (or kinds) of prayer can be.
It takes a community, an entire culture to lift a pyramid, a mountain. I often think of prayer as a solitary responsibility.
The 3 a.m. prayers, which I have grown to love, are all- exhausting still, costly, as Benny Hinn explains. And when possible, I try to pray for an hour, then sit and wait for His Presence to show up, to listen. Sometimes, it just shows up and the tears just flow. Not trying to teach you how- just comparing notes on my latest efforts. Real prayer is still a moving target for me, but there is progress and it is sweet. I think of prayer communities like neuron networks being formed."

There is a reason God wants us to pray without ceasing… To come to Him, placing all our cares before Him..

Many times we wind up complaining, or moaning and grumbling under the pressures of people and life. I know I sometimes fall under the delusion I know best or the world revolves around me. The truth is, God loves us so much that IF we will seek Him in prayer…. He will provide a love note where we will be….

Strengthened, connected– coming alive as God’s fire falls on us. Like in Psalm 5 where we lay our plans on the altar each morning and wait for His fire to fall.

I recently read from “Walking in the Dust of Rabbi Jesus: How the Jewish Words of Jesus Can Change Your Life” by Lois Tverberg, Ray Vander Laan, Ann Spangler –

“After reading the account in Genesis 22 about God’s asking Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, many people ask, “How old was Isaac?” Was he a toddler, a teen, or an adult? Most paintings picture Isaac as a child toting a bundle of sticks under his arm as he walks beside his elderly father. This is because Genesis 22:6 says that Abraham carried the knife while Isaac carried the wood for the sacrifice. But a sacrifice was offered by roasting an animal as a whole burnt offering, which took several hours over a full fire.6 The large logs needed for fuel would require the strength of a full-grown man to carry them. There was no way the elderly Abraham could lift them (remember, he was one hundred already when Isaac was born), so he carried the knife while Isaac carried the wood. In fact, for most of the journey, two donkeys bore the massive burden (verse 3). Once you envision an adult Isaac bearing the heavy wood, the story takes on an entirely different tone.

Now we see that the story is not just about Abraham’s unshakeable faith in God; it’s about Isaac’s willing, heroic obedience to submit to his father’s will. And suddenly the scene of Christ carrying his cross comes starkly into view.”

Laying your burdens on the fire of God’s altar is a relieving thing, but realizing once you are in there laboring, He has already gone before you and left you a love note with all the answers.

Listen to my words, Lord,
Consider my sighing.
Listen to the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God,
For to You I pray.
In the morning, Lord, You will hear my voice;
In the morning I will present my prayer to You and be on the watch.

For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness;
No evil can dwell with You.
The boastful will not stand before Your eyes;
You hate all who do injustice.
You destroy those who speak lies;
The Lord loathes the person of bloodshed and deceit.
But as for me, by Your abundant graciousness I will enter Your house,
At Your holy temple I will bow in reverence for You. ….

For You bless the righteous person, Lord,
You surround him with favor as with a shield.

Psalm 5 NASB (portion)

In Christ Alone we stand, all other ground is sinking sand.

From the altars of adversities His love flows…May the Lord set you free from every care….from ashes to beauty…Marlene
