TCCTC ~Tallahassee’s Hidden Gem …. “Isaiah 54”

What is your favorite place to go in your city?

Exploring Tallahassee’s Heart: TCCTC #RiseUp Campaign

Tallahassee boasts numerous hidden gems, but my absolute favorite spot is Tallahassee Christian College (TCCTC). From its modest beginnings to its current residence on North Monroe, this institution has been a hub of growth, prayer, and community for over three decades. As I reminisce about teaching, praying, and discovering the city with friends, TCCTC stands out as a constant in the midst of change.

I vividly recall meeting Jo Anne Arnett during TCCTC’s earlier days when it was housed in a downtown office. The journey continued with classes, prayer sessions, books about the city, and local art, creating cherished memories. Walking the city streets, visiting the Capitol, and exploring universities became part of our routine, with Joan West’s tour van providing a unique perspective.

The college’s impact extended beyond academics; we actively prayed for Tallahassee’s well-being. A memorable incident involved the bomb squad responding to our prayers, demonstrating the powerful impact of collective faith. This period saw the rise of prayer groups, including The Clarion Call newsletter initiated by Marie Williams and others associated with TCCTC

By 1999, TCCTC contributors were serving the community by providing food at The Mission on Monday nights. As life got busier for me as a single mom, I had to step back from nightly and monthly meetings, but TCCTC continued to evolve, moving several times and circling the city.

Since my departure in 2006, TCCTC has grown, with teachers, missionaries, pastors, and lay ministers finding their roots in this institution. Jo Anne remains the steadfast President, leading weekly prayers alongside a dedicated team, including co-founder Darlene Heinrich.

Jackie Kinsey, the Executive Director, Provost, and more, emerged as the glue holding TCCTC, its library, and students together. Through the challenges of COVID and a recent move to 2555 N. Monroe, her leadership has been instrumental. The college’s outreach now extends to the Leon County Detention Center, with Sheriff Walt McNeil recognized as the Faith and Profession recipient.

Situated across from its founding location, TCCTC has become the nucleus of two churches and a Christian Day School on North Monroe. It houses offices, an 11,000-volume library, and an auditorium serving as both a church sanctuary and a meeting place for two other churches. Every Nation, the property owner, sends missionaries, including those to local college campuses.

For me, TCCTC remains a favorite place in Tallahassee. It’s where memories of the past intertwine with prayers of hope for our city. It’s a space for fellowship with old friends and opportunities to make new ones. It’s a place where prayers echo, stories unfold, and where my faith found purpose and passion in my youth. The college boasts some of the finest,  Biblical professors, pastors, and teachers in the city. Please consider becoming a #RiseUp Campaign partner
