Fathers, We Need You! You are Soul Care Providers

I was sitting in a coffee shop thinking about Father’s Day and asking God what He wanted me to share.  There have been many influential fathers in my lives. Pictured above and below are just a few of some of the ones I know personally.

While I was writing I was privy to a conversation of a young man talking about the soon coming birth of his son. He described it, like being in the midst of a hurricane that is soon approaching.”

He went on to basically describe, “His newfound fatherhood is like a flurry of preparing for an uncontrollable event that he knew would radically change his life forever.”

He added, “My baby boy is running around inside my wife’s belly kicking and screaming. He is coming… and he will be here soon!”

Then a few weeks ago this man’s unborn son went from kicking and lots of active movement in his mother’s womb to no activity and no respiratory score. Thankfully, after testing and waiting, they found out the baby is fine. I know this must have been especially scary, since this couple has been married for over 14 years and this is their first pregnancy.

He was talking with a couple about helping build non-profit sustainability programs  in Alaska. From their conversation I believe he will make a great dad and provider.

I love how the Lord will seat people right next to you who have the same heart and passion for souls and discipleship. I believe this confirms what God is calling us as believers to do in this hour.  I call these individuals Soul Care Providers.

Fatherhood

I’ve known many mothers and fathers who have gone through trials and tribulations regarding their children. Whatever the storm, God has it under control.

“Jesus is walking through the storm to get to your boat.” Cynthia Pettis

In 1993 I went to work for a young man and his wife who had waited over a decade for their first son. It was such a blessing when this little boy was born! This family now has three grown children and they have been such a model for other parents as well as an example of the Father’s love for His children.

This picture on the left is of Johnny Blue Craig Sr. and his son Johnny Blue Jr. This picture was  created for a prepaid phone card and a promotional ad for a Fatherhood Campaign. There is only a short window of time we have as parents and especially fathers to influence the next generation. The picture on the right is Johnny Blue, April and their three grown children.

We need fathers to come to the revelation that you become a father when life is conceived and you are a “father and soul care provider” even before your baby arrives.

So, it is in the case of
hurricanes, tsunamis,
crisis, trauma and lost souls.

Storms of life come suddenly and how can we prepare
and provide soul care without the fathers who love the Father of all Fathers?

Fathers, Soul Care Providers, We Need You!

Onward Christian Soldiers
Onward Christian soldiers
Marching as to war
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before
Onward then, ye people
Join our happy throng
Blend with ours your voices
In our triumph song
Christ the royal master
Leads against the foe
Forward into battle
See His banners go
Crowns and Thrones may perish
Kingdoms rise and wane
But the cross of Jesus
Constant will remain

Big Lake – Alaska

img_3688

Located on the shore of its namesake lake and sprawling over 138 square miles is the community of Big Lake, with a population of 3,191 people and many, many more sled dogs, including the kennel of four-time Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race champion Martin Buser.

About Big Lake

Many residents of Big Lake commute to work in Anchorage, 60 miles to the south, but choose to live in Big Lake for its limitless recreation opportunities and the views of Mount Susitna, Denali and the Talkeetna Mountains.

Things to do

Not surprisingly, recreation in the area centers around the lake, and it is indeed big, with 67 miles of shoreline. Popular activities include swimming, camping, boating, fishing, jet skiing and tour boat rides in the summer; in the winter, snowmobile competitions, dog mushing, ice fishing and cross-country skiing dominate the lake’s frozen surface.

Big Lake North State Recreation Site is located on the lake and has overnight parking spaces, walk-in tent sites, picnic area, shelters and an outstanding view of Denali on a clear day. Also nearby is Fish Creek Park, a popular day-use area with a salmon spawning observation deck; Big Lake South State Recreation Site with campsites and a boat launch on the lake; and Rocky Lake State Recreation Site with camping on a lake closed to jet skis, jet boats and air boats.

Insecurity “I”s that will incinerate you!

Insecurity

No temptation[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,[c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry. I Corinthians 10:13-14

Idolatry is putting anything or anyone before the Lord. It is a subtle form of insecurity. It is easy to try and please others, especially as Christians.  We will tell subtle lies in order not to hurt someone’s feelings, and we may read other’s actions as contrary to our own welfare, and make assumptions.

Both are traps….from the enemy.  The Corinthian church had these same issues.  The enemy will tempt us…. but God, said He has already taken care of this for us in advance!

Whenever we feel these things try to tempt us…. Run!  Insecurity will incinerarte you and God’s plans for you! Run from insecurity…. Run into the security of Jesus!

Blessings,

Inflammation “I”s that will Incinerate You

eye inflammation

I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. Jeremiah 33: 6b (NIV)

The second phase of healing a wound (there are four) is inflammation. Inflammation means to ignite or set on fire. The process is part of our body’s defense system and actually helps to heal a wound or injury. After a wound has occurred (blood is clotting) the small blood vessels change and allow blood (plasma, blood proteins, and white cells) to enter the area around the injury – it swells. This increase in fluids (blood) accompanies or causes pain, Screen Shot 2015-07-02 at 11.39.12 AMloss of function, redness and a “hot to the touch” sensation. Discharging pus is a part of this process. We tend to try and control/stop inflammation but it is needed after a wound for healing; if inflammation does not get rid of the problem or continues that is chronic inflammation and can lead to other health issues.

The parallels of physical inflammation to spiritual inflammation are noteworthy. After the initial shock of a wound we will feel pain, possibly stop doing things, and be touchy; these are natural but it is because “life” (blood) is trying to flood back in. We may/should let loose bad stuff (pus) as part of our healing. In this stage if we don’t get rid of “stuff” it will stay around and cause other more serious problems or at least delay our healing.

∞ Lord Jesus, we know wounds will come but thank you for healing. Holy Spirit thank you for taking ALL things and using them to bring us closer to Jesus and the Father. Amen.

“I”s that will Incinerate You – Immobility

Fear

Immobility  – Fear will immobilize you as was in the case of Pastor Bobette Stubblefield,

Soon after our marriage began, my husband began to isolate me by forbidding me to spend time at church and with my family and friends. Isolation then begins to break down a person’s worth; and little by little steals their identity.  My husband would shove me down and overpower me physically.  …He would then urinate on me.  Fear became my captor (Stubblefield. March 20, 2004).

She also described how she would shake uncontrollably whenever she would think about going home or would drive toward her house. She stayed in the marriage for 12 years and faced fear daily.  Finally, one day, when she had to defend herself in a court battle over her children, she was forced to face fear head on.  Fearful, but determined to overcome it, she took courageous steps toward the courtroom door.  Just before entering the courtroom, she realized she was not alone and that God had stationed angels around her.  Bobette recalls that day:

But, before I walked in front of the judge, God opened my eyes like He opened the prophet Elijah servant’s eyes.  Elijah’s servant saw thousands of angels standing ready for battle on he and his country’s behalf.  When God allowed me to see into the spiritual realm, He showed me six angels dressed like Secret Service men.  They were with me walking arm in arm into the courtroom. I realized I was not alone anymore. The Bible says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and love, and a sound mind.”

Preparing the Bride – A Hopeful Heart

Bride1929

Preparing to be the Bride of Christ – A Hopeful Heart

13 “If you would prepare your heart,
And stretch out your hands toward Him;
14 If iniquity were in your hand, and you put it far away,
And would not let wickedness dwell in your tents;
15 Then surely you could lift up your face without spot;
Yes, you could be steadfast, and not fear;
16 Because you would forget your misery,
And remember it as waters that have passed away,
17 And your life would be brighter than noonday.
Though you were dark, you would be like the morning.
18 And you would be secure, because there is hope;
Yes, you would dig around you, and take your rest in safety.
19 You would also lie down, and no one would make you afraid;
Yes, many would court your favor.

Job 11:13-19 New King James Version (NKJV)

Preparing to become the BRIDE begins with a preparation of the
heart.  We can have all the answers, live a seemingly perfect life, but still miss becoming
the BRIDE.

Can I stand firm, be steadfast and without fear?

Can I cast my sorrows, hurts, disappointments and troubles on the sea of forgetfulness, and let them forever be gone without revisiting them?

If, I can put Christ in the forefront of every thought, action and deed, then and only then can my heart be prepared to receive the hope, security, safety confidence and favor to love and serve Him as He truly deserves.

As my faithful Defender, Shepherd, Lover, and HUSBAND.

Partner with Me on my Trip to Africa!

Challenge Farm

Dear Friends and Family,

July is finally here and  I’m excited to be heading to Challenge Farm in Kitale, Kenya Africa!

Challenge Farm is part of Globe Hope, the humanitarian arm of Globe International, Inc. where I work.

When I got saved at the age of 12, I felt God calling me to Africa. I could see myself in a vision giving a cup of water to little children. Challenge Farm was founded in 1992 and is home to 188 street children. Many lives have been changed over the years at Challenge Farm and I am so excited to be able to go there! For more information please visit their website at Challenge Farm.org.

Below is a story that happened just last year. Above is a picture of some of these precious children. “On April 9, 2014 in Kitale, Kenya 87 street kids were awakened from their sleep and placed in jail. Challenge Farm by faith took in 30 new children.”As the children were brought to Challenge Farm one of the boys asked, “Is there food at Challenge Farm?” – “Yes, 3 meals a day” – “and football every day!” – “and showers! ” Jesse and Elissa Pontius

The cost of the 21-day trip is about $3,000. This price includes airfare, meals, lodging, and ground transportation and some supplies for the Challenge Farm. Please pray for our team & me as we prepare to go on this mission trip. Apart from financial support, there are several ways you could help:

At the present time I have approximately ¼ of my funds raised. I would like to ask that you would consider supporting me financially. (I recommend a gift of $50, $100 or $150, but you can always give more!), but more important please pray for me and our team. A few facts about where I am going:

Challenge Farm Boys

  • In Sub-Saharan Africa (the part of the continent south of the Sahara Desert), more than 300 million people – nearly half the population – live on less than $1 a day.
  • Every day 6,600 people die from AIDS.
  • More than 12 million African children have already lost one or both parents to AIDS, with the number of AIDS orphans expected to increase to more than 18 million by 2010.
  • In Kenya, the median age is only 18, and about half the population is 15 or younger

The 30 children that were taken in from being “netted” on the street were all 12 and younger. The minimum cost to feed, clothe, provide medical, dental, shelter and education is approximately $200+ per month. Imagine your monthly household expenses increasing $6,000 per month in one day!
