Imagine You Are Wonderful!

At the 2019 UHURU International PowWow Women Leaders and Discipleship Training conference we studied how we were created in the image of God. It was wonderful to discover the only thing that matters on this earth is how God sees us! The scrutiny and judgment of others is irrelevant to our design and purpose for being created.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made…

Imagine that!

In the beginning, God created Mankind in His Image,
both male & female.

Who am I, Why am I here? What is my purpose for being here?

As you most likely know, we are seeing epidemic identity issues that are causing crisis, trauma and terror everywhere. Healing mankind’s broken relationship with God is the only way these issues can be resolved. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. There is no other way to solve the problem of having a broken identity.

Scripture tells us; “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.” I Peter 2:10

We also learned when Adam and Eve sinned, their relationship, plan and purpose in the earth and with God was shattered and broken.

Our identity is found in covenant. ~Kathy Behm

But we also learn that after Adam and Eve sinned, God made a covenant with them to redeem them from their sin. The first lamb was slain at the foundation of the world. God’s love and mercy and redemption plan began. Then the lamb of God, Jesus was sacrificed on the cross to die for the sins of the world. This covenant was made and stands available for any who will believe and receive.

Through salvation, God has also restored an individual’s identity, plan and purpose in the earth, for those who are born again. This is why we used image and identity as our first teaching in our Freedom PowWow.

Once we know, believe and understand that God created us in His image; then we can begin to walk upright, knowing He will direct our steps toward His plan and purpose for our lives.

We become new creatures and supernatural beings with an eternal purpose. God’s Kingdom will never be conquered or pass away. We will reign with Him forever.

Knowing and walking in this; “It is for freedom that Christ sets us free.”

Galatians 5:1

God gives us free will because He doesn’t believe in making His people be robots or slaves. If you are a skeptic about God, I’m asking you to stop and just imagine for one moment that you were created by God and made in His image. As your creator, He has a special reason He created you.

He will reveal why and for what purpose you were created if you will ask Him to show you.
It doesn’t matter what you have done, where you are or how you feel about yourself, it doesn’t change how God feels about you. He wants you to know Him.
It is wonderful, marvelous and forever!

Jesus says, “Let this be your identity!”

Judith McNutt says,

“Jesus demonstrated a solid identity: he knew he had come from the Father, he knew that God had put all things under his authority, and he knew he was returning to the Father. If we, too, know these three things – that we were created by God, that he has a purpose for us, and that, when it is time, he will call us home to him – then we experience our God-given identity and the assurance that we truly belong in his family – in his kingdom.”

By believing and accepting Jesus, you are accepting this eternal covenant
and becoming part of God’s Kingdom here on earth, as it already is in heaven1

The Pig Stuck in the Mud

So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating,
but no one gave him anything.

Luke 15:15-16

Recently I had a dream and it was terrible. In it there was a pig like the one pictured above that was buried and stuck in the mud. This pig looked so awful that I felt like she/he would die any second. It was buried up past it’s neck and stuck up under the porch of a house where you could barely see it at all. The yard had been flooded and to even get underneath the porch would be nearly impossible.

I kept looking around for someone to help. I was alone and there was no one in sight. It was getting dark quickly. I had to act fast if this pig was to be rescued.

I feel embarrassed to say my first thoughts were;

Just walk away and pretend that you didn’t notice it underneath there. No one will know.

Marlene’s Thoughts

Then the still small voice of the Holy Spirit spoke to me. He said, “I’ll know.”
I felt so ashamed and yet, the Holy Spirit didn’t bring condemnation only conviction. He said,

God loves that pig whether it lives or dies. You’ve been given a choice to either get down and get dirty, or to turn and walk away. Jesus still loves you too.

I woke up in a sweat. I was so thankful I was only dreaming! Then I remembered the story of the prodigal son who had squandered his inheritance and was so hungry that he would have gotten down into the mud just to eat the pigs food. Only if he had been allowed to.

Luke 15:15-16

The Lord showed me the condition of my heart and how easy it was for me to judge who is worthy or not worthy of rescuing.

The entire chapter of Luke 15 is about how God will leave those who are in good condition to go after the one lost person, in this case a pig. The Lord is ever pursuing the dirty, the broken, the lost and hurting. This is what His saving grace is all about.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53

Again, I’m thankful this was just a dream, but I’m even more thankful that like a pig stuck in the mud, the Lord sent Jesus to die for my sins, my pig pen, and he never hesitated a time coming in after me.

Make No Mistake Vulnerable Love Hurts

Make no mistake, vulnerable love hurts. To love with complete abandon will cost you. It has cost many their very lives.

Have you ever loved so deeply that it hurts when you think about never seeing that person again? So many writers describe this feeling…

“If you were my last breath I’d just want to hold you.” ~Kip Moore

“Vulnerable love doesn’t just hope to see. It longs.” ~Beth Moore

The Apostle Paul loved his Christian brothers and sisters so much he hurt. He was willing to die alone and in prison (and eventually was martyred) to further the good news and testimony that he himself had met Jesus Christ, the living God! Before his conversion, Paul, (known as Saul of Tarsus) was a Roman citizen who was also a Pharisee and zealot. He actually went out killing and persecuting those who were the disciples of Jesus.

As a Pharisee he once took great pride in keeping God’s laws. One day as he rode on his horse to the city of Tarsus, to hunt down and murder Christians, his entire perspective changed in one instant. You might say, “He was knocked off his high horse.”

He was blinded by a light and knocked off his horse. A voice from heaven asked him this question, “Saul, why do you persecute me?”

When you have an encounter with God, it will change the way you stand.

Rev. C. Pettis

Paul, once a murderer and terrorist had been eternally transformed through the power of a resurrected Jesus. Read Acts 9.

Paul would become one of the greatest authors, evangelists, missionary and apostles the world has ever known.

After his conversion and now, years later Paul finds himself being led by the Holy Spirit knowing his future looks bleak. There are those who seek to destroy him. Those he once stood beside, now stand to judge, imprison and persecute, beat and kill him.

“And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. 24 However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me–the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:22-24

Love hurts
Love scars
Love wounds and marks
Any heart not tough or strong enough
To take a lot of pain, take a lot of pain
Love is like a cloud, it holds a lot of rain

Songwriters: Boudleaux Bryant

Near the end of his life, Paul had grown so very close to those he had once persecuted because of Jesus. His hardened heart was now soft and vulnerable. He writes near his death (most agree it was Timothy) “I remember your tears.” (2 Tim. 1:4)

Because of Paul’s conversion and the grace, love & scars Paul endured we see what Beth Moore calls Vulnerable Love.

Make no mistake there is a God who loves and treasures you. He wept, He suffered, He was crucified, for one and only one reason: His Love For The World (John 3:16).

Divine Love Does Not Spare Itself. ~ Beth Moore

He is jealous for me, Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

The Greatest Treasure!

Searching for Lost Treasure!

“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?  And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ 1In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:8-10

Perhaps you or a loved one has suffered a sudden or tragic loss. Questions similar to these crowd our thoughts….

“What if I don’t survive this health crisis?

What were they thinking when they did that?

Can God forgive me?

Why did he/she leave me?

Where do I go from here?

If God is good why did He allow this?

Jesus shared stories like the one above to those who would listen. Like this woman who had lost one of her valuable coins we all go through times when we suffer great loss, disappointment and hopelessness.

In this story of the lost coin Jesus compares this to a lost soul being found. Jesus says, “That the angels rejoice when ONE SINNER repents.”

God is not waiting to catch us in doing wrong, His heart is for us to be found. His love, forgiveness and eternal life is available not only for the abused, broken and hurting, but for even the worst of sinners, those who are abusers, addicts, homeless, and mentally ill. Repentance is about returning to our Creator.

There is not one soul that God does not count as treasure and of great worth.

Jesus came as Immanuel – God is with us! This is what the celebration of Christmas is all about! If He is for us, who can be against us?

When Jesus was still an infant, Mary and Joseph took him to the Temple.  Mary was there to make a purification offering as instructed by God’s Law following the birth of each child.  As Mary and Joseph walked into the Temple court, an old man named Simeon hurried over, obviously beside himself.  Taking Jesus into his arms he began praising God.  “Lord, now I can die in peace,” he cried.  “For I have seen the Savior you promised to show me.  He is the Light that will shine upon the nations, and he will be the glory of your people Israel!”

Simeon and Anna looked down into the face of God…and realized they were looking at the redeemer and deliverer of Israel. They saw the greatest treasure ever given to mankind! God came to earth as a baby and with a plan to redeem mankind!

Repentance

When we realize how much God loves us, that He created us and is alive and wants to build a relationship with us, we can accept His gift of salvation, deliverance and healing with an open heart and mind.

Like Simeon, Anna and many others we will be ready to meet Him and can die in peace and look forward to the restoration of God’s Kingdom and the freedom of living forever. Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings and His Kingdom will reign and go on forever.

The crisis, trauma and sorrows of this life are only temporary afflictions and will truly be wiped away, forever when we choose to accept Jesus as our redeemer.

Zombies, Black Butterflies & the Cross

Zombies, Black Butterflies and The Cross

As you may have read in my newsletter I recently had a dream about zombies. I’ve never had a dream about them, but I’ve met some walking dead, and at times I’ve battled issues that made me look and feel like a dead woman walking horror.

Recently I had a face to face encounter with a young man who claimed to be a Nazi Christian and claiming there is only one true race. This next sentence will be shocking, but not as shocking as looking at this handsome young man, just from the hospital where  the night before had been in a fight and had half of his ear bit off.  This was a violent battle between two men both whom were given life by a loving creator.

He was standing outside of McDonalds and was using profanity and apologized to me as I walked by. He asked me if I was a Christian and when our conversation turned away from the bitterness and hatred of his belief to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus; he began to curse and tell me to get out of his face.

For the message about Christ’s death on the cross is nonsense to those who are being lost; but for us who are being saved it is God’s power. I Corinthians 1:18 (GNV)

As I looked at this young man and the black butterfly stitches that outlined his half chewed off ear, I thought about the night Jesus was arrested and how His disciple Peter violently took his sword and cut off Malchus’ ear. He was the slave of the high priest. (Read John 18 for the entire story.)

Jesus bent down without a word and picked it up and reattached it. Wow what a miracle!

I feel certain this slave and the others who witnessed this miracle were astounded! This miracle performed by Jesus still wasn’t enough to convince the high priest and others that Jesus was who He said He was.

Jesus was about to demonstrate several other miracles. He started with never opening his mouth to defend himself, was beaten nearly to death, forced to carry his own cross, and was crucified, verified dead and buried. From there He descended into hades, and then rose from the dead, and was seen by many walking, talking and eating. He then ascended into heaven and is now waiting for whosoever will accept Him and become His disciple. It is said that His disciples are known not by their titles, positions of power, race, gender or intellectual ability, but by their love.

As a follower of Jesus, we are to be the “alternative community,” one who rearranges our way of life for others, who learn of His ways, follow His path, eat, pray and serve together, giving away what we are able to help each other. One of our missions here on earth is so outsiders may look at us and say, “We know they are disciples of Jesus because of their love.”

I wish this young man I had met had been open for me to share more, and to allow me to pray for him. His anger and bitterness overcame his desire to be healed for eternity. Even so, I pray he and his companion would come to know the saving, healing, and delivering love of Jesus. I pray this tormented young man sensed Christ’s love in me.

Help! I’ve Been Arrested!

speed fines double

I was recently traveling and had just pulled into a McDonalds to take a bathroom break.  I had been praying and listening to the radio all morning. During this past season I’ve been alone a lot except for when I’m doing ministry or helping someone in crisis or trauma. I also love being a road warrior because it is during these times that God gives me nuggets to chew on and even whole chapters of my book I’m writing.

There are times more often than not recently that I desperately miss and cherish the family and friends that are so important to me.  So I drive along and pray for those that I can’t see, touch or feel. It is in these times I also realize how important I am to my heavenly Father and that He does miss me when I get too busy or neglect my time with Him.

I know there are things the Lord wants me to do, but more so He wants me to be honest with Him and with myself.  This discipline really takes me getting into a quiet place and trusting Him. In order to increase my faith, He has been stretching me it seems like in every area of my life!

The Lord has ALWAYS come through and has ALWAYS been faithful.  The older and grayer I get my weak knees grow weary on waiting and then that devil of fear and anxiousness try to drown out God’s voice. It just so happened that Adrian Rogers was teaching on one of my favorite scriptures.

We Will Be Saved Out of This World
1 Peter 1:7-9 says, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”

He spoke on God’s refining fire and how everything in us will be tested at times. I know from experience when I feel anxious, useless, unproductive, and lonely that seems to be the exact time God allows Satan to test my faith.

“Lord let me be content not doing or seeing anything.” I then heard Him speak softly to my spirit, You don’t have to do anything for my favor or love, just be with Me and follow Me. I love you. Rest… I’ve arrested you!

Right after I came out out of the bathroom and was just pulling out of McDonalds, I looked down and my phone was ringing. Now I happen to have an app on my phone that tells callers that I can’t answer because I am in my car driving. I was surprised at it ringing.

At first glance it was an unknown number and I honestly thought it must be another solicitor trying to sell me an auto warranty. Mind you I have over 230,000 miles on my car and the only warranty is the one My heavenly Father provides! Recently this even got tested when several “alert” lights came on! But, need I say, even whenever I get arrested by the warning lights; God is and always will be my provider.

I looked again and saw the name Lemoine, and pulled back into the parking space at Mcdonalds. Beverly is another minister I had met two years earlier at our fellowship conference. She lives and works in Mississippi and has an outreach ministry named Come As You Are. The first thing she said, “Marlene this is Beverly Lemoine, do you remember me? Your name and face came across my mind like one of those electronic signs! How would you like to go to Tanzania with me next year and help with an international women’s conference?”

I think I was just arrested!

So, the exciting news is we will be doing a Freedom PowWow and will be ministering next May 2019 for three weeks to women and pastor’s wives in Tanzania Africa.

I will be sending out more details as they come in but I am asking for help in making this conference great for these women! We are writing a five-day curriculum and already have 200 New Testaments donated that are in Swahili.

In the meantime I’m being led to find a place to study, pray and write. I have a couple of places in mind, but I’m waiting on the Lord to open up the perfect place. Please pray and agree with me that I will wait patiently!

The Man Who Won’t Go Away

20-years-ago-we-had-johnny-cash-bob-hope-and-8651167

Jesus is on my mind today. He is the man who won’t go away. I’ve just started reading the book by John Ortberg, Who Is This Man (Published 2012) and I haven’t even got past the first page when the reality of life and death and the impact our lives make on the individuals whom we influence, and the legacy we leave for generations to come. Are they temporal or are they eternal?

Ortberg writes:

“Normally when someone dies, their impact on the world immediately begins to recede. As I write this our world marks the passing of digital innovator Steve jobs. Someone wrote that ten years ago our world had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and Steve Jobs; now we have no Jobs, no Cash and no Hope. But Jesus inverted this normal human trajectory, as he did so many others. Jesus’ impact was greter a hundred years after his death than during his life; it was greater still after five hundred years; after a thousand years his legacy laid the foundation for much of Europe; after two thousand years he has more followers in more places than ever.”

Thus, the title of Ortberg’s book, Who Is This Man. I’ve also been reading and studying some ancient writings and text where Jesus not only came to bring salvation, redemption and healing to mankind, but to destroy the works of his enemies.

Jesus death and resurrection took authority over this high place and we read about this below.
