For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, And that which I was afraid of is come unto me. I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet;
Yet trouble came.

Job 3:25-26

Many years ago I was on my way to pick up my two youngest sons from school. Being a single mother at the time, I felt the enormous responsibility of keeping my children sheltered from harm, and providing a loving Godly home.

Suddenly fear attacked me.

As I approached a stoplight to turn left in busy traffic; the split second thought came;

“You are going to turn and a car is going to hit and kill you. You won’t be able to get your sons, they will be left alone, abandoned and crying for you.”

The stoplight turned yellow, and I was able to safely apply my brakes and wait for the next light. I began to thank God and rebuke that spirit of fear. I said “No, you devil, you do not have control over me, God does.”

I felt the Lord say,

“Even if someone blows you to smithereens, unlike Humpty Dumpty, I am able to put you back together again, if I so choose to.”

Fear is an evil spirit. Fear is relentless. Fear is not fair and Fear can ruin and rob us of living a faith and love filled life, if we don’t stand up and fight against it.

I recently spoke to my Godmother who was one of the many peaceful protesters in the Albany Freedom March of the 60’s. She was arrested and thrown into a cell for three weeks.

She said, “I am free. I’ve always been free. God made me free. No man can take my freedom. True freedom can only be found through the power of the blood. No man has the power to take our freedom in Christ away from us. God is all powerful. He set us free.”

There will always be evil and spirits of fear in this world until The Lord stands up and makes thing right once and for all.

She said, “Marlene we have the power in us through what Jesus did on the cross to stand up and fight against the evil spirits in the world. Fear is not love. The perfect love of Jesus casts out all fear. We fight with love. His love is perfect and He will help us face evil. God is Right and Right is Right. When He called me to march the Lord gave me wisdom, love and the ability to stand for right.”

I asked her, “What about fear? Weren’t you afraid something would happen to you and you wouldn’t be able to care for your children?“

She said, “the only thing that can fight the spirits of fear is love. His perfect love has already done that. He loves my children more than I do. He takes care of all His children.“

She explained she knew God was calling her to march for right. David was a young boy, who stood against Goliath. He stood up against the giant, but God stood up in front of him. He couldn’t miss the shot he had to take.

Marlene, don't let a powerless voice take away what Jesus already died for.

While she was marching and while she was arrested they would sing,

I got my hand on a gospel plow
Won’t take nothing for the journey now
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold on

Only chain that a man can stand
Is that chain o’ hand on hand
Keep your eyes on the prize
Hold on

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.”

Psalm 34:4-5

“And they went and woke him, saying, ‘Save us, Lord; we are perishing.’ And he said to them, ‘Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?’ Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying,
‘What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?’”

Matthew 8:25-27
