Historically calves were kept in stalls for slaughter, either as a sacrifice or for dinner. So if it was released from the stall it meant that it was no longer destined for the grave.
Malachi 4:1-3
“Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the Lord Almighty.“Not a root or a branch will be left to them. But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves. Then you will trample on the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I act,” says the Lord Almighty.
Malachi 4:1-3
There are times when we are fenced in not realizing the peril ahead. Suddenly without forewarning, we are released to joyfully escape out of one deadly corral and into an extension of life.
Rex was our family’s Jack Russell when I served with my son and his family in Kitale, Kenya. The guest house where we lived was on a compound within the main compound and had a metal gate. Most every morning I would take my granddaughter Ava on a walk having to go outside of the gate.

This gate opened out to the soccer field and then beyond was the agriculture department with farming, animals, and beautiful trees.
One day I was taking my granddaughter for a walk and we were going out the gate when Rex escaped and ran out into the open field where there were cows, and children playing.

He ran all over the field. He was so happy literally leaping about. His new found freedom brought joy to the kids and staff who saw him and then me with Ava running around like crazy trying to catch him!
After around half and hour of chasing Rex he finally ran out of steam and just laid down exhausted in the grass. I grabbed him and walked him and Ava back to the compound.
There have been times I felt confident, happy, and content only to find I was really in a place of bondage and not able to see the truths God was trying to reveal. I was afraid of being let out of the stall so to speak. I had been fattened up for the slaughter.
My LORD came along, saw my dilemma and He opened the door for me to be released into a brand new place where I would find freedom, extreme joy and peace.
I’m learning that truly loving and living for Christ, involves a lament over those whom are missing out on opportunities to be set free from the stalls of life.
A lament is an expression of grief, sorrow, disappointment, or mourning. Even Jesus quoted Psalm 22 when He was on the cross.
Jesus was a man of sorrows because though He was the Son of God, though He chose to live as a servant, though oHe proved his message to be true, many rejected it, though He was innocent, yet He bore the sins of many.
He was made flesh to walk among us to let us know that though we may have sorrows, He Himself bore those sorrows in order for us to escape being led away into the eternal stall of death and hell. Jesus sets us free to live eternally with Him, when we yield our life to Him.

It is for freedom’s sake that Christ has set you free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:1
