There are times in life when you just need to take a break. One of the beautiful people whose life I follow is a woman I’ve never met in person, although I feel like she is one of my best friends.
I became her friend on FB when I was living in Alaska. Joyce inspires me. She shares posts about some of the most beautiful places she has visited, interesting people, and heart warming experiences.
The following story touched my heart and I know it will touch yours. This story tells me what a treasure of a person Joyce is.
It is a lesson in humility, tenacity, patience, social justice, all rolled into one year of turning ashes into beauty and trash into treasure.
Through collecting and recycling bottles & cans, I have earned enough money to buy 1/2 ctw diamond earrings.
Recycling started last year as a character building activity. Once upon a time, I would never have reached into a can of trash and pulled out a bottle for a 10¢ monetary return. I was unconsciously above all that. My ego can always use a bit of humility.
So I started this project with no goal in mind, just cashing in a small bag of cans here and there for a couple bucks. I put the money in an envelope and stashed it away.
Then about 6 weeks ago I decided I wanted a little ear sparkle that I can wear everyday, and I thought, “how ironic would it be to buy such a luxury item with trash money? Sold!!”
😁 …makes me smile!!
I started collecting more intentionally to raise the money for my earrings and I have recycled more than 7,000 bottles and cans to make this happen.
