That 70’s Sofa – Falling in the Father’s Arms

Falling in the Father’s arms:

In February 1991 there was a storm that touched my life. The weather was very cold and my heart was very broken. My two youngest sons and I had just moved from a very large home in Altamonte Springs into a very tiny one bedroom apartment in Tallahassee, Florida. My bedroom was a 70’s sofa that my brother and sister-in-law had given us. It didn’t have much support and the fabric was a little scratchy. I had given the boys the bedroom and had a bunk bed with their little TV and a Nintendo hooked up to it. They didn’t have many toys  other than a couple of stuffed animals, transformers and some matchbook cars.

They really didn’t understand what was going on at the time and had no idea how “the storm” that had hit us would change the course of our lives. God was then and still is now so merciful. I was so thankful when they were fast asleep so I could bury my head and cry out to God! He never, not once failed to comfort me in His everlasting arms.

I didn’t know how in the world I was going to survive as a single mom. All of the questions of Why, How and What were racing in my mind. I was displaced, disheartened and seemingly alone. I remember making up my bed on the couch, crawling under the covers and closing my eyes asking Jesus to help me go to sleep. The last thing I remember before falling asleep was my heavenly Father’s loving arms wrapped around me. I felt like I was being tucked into bed like a little baby. It is impossible to describe how safe, protected and loved I felt, on that 70’s sofa!

Another friend of mine from Alaska shares a similar story about falling in the Father’s arms.

“As she started going off the driveway, over the edge, she felt the arms of Jesus come around her and swaddle her so tightly like a baby and fill her with such peace that is so indescribable. Her face and body were inches from the windshield but never touched or hit anything. Her head started to go out the sunroof but Jesus was holding her down where she wouldn’t fly out. When the truck finally stopped, it had rolled over once and stopped on all four tires. Crystal had come to a rest about 30 ft below the driveway down the mountain without a single scratch, bruise, or break of any kind. She had glass all over her face and in her mouth yet nothing penetrated the skin. It was an absolute miracle from Jesus that she walked out of the vehicle that day.

Seven people including Rick. watched the accident happen, and we all knew that it was by our Savior’s grace that she was alive. Our truck was totaled but not even one scratch on Crystal…! HALLELUJAH! ” Rick Rumner, Outreach Missionary Priceless.Org AlaskaNo

Sarah Edwards’ Loss

He did what Sarah Edwards did when she received word that her husband and great protestant revivalist Jonathan had died at the age of 54 from a smallpox inoculation one month after becoming the president of Princeton College in 1758. She picked up her pen and wrote to her daughter Esther whose husband Aaron Burr had died six months earlier:

My very dear child, What shall I say! A holy and good God has covered us with a dark cloud. O that we may kiss the rod, and lay our hands upon our mouths! The Lord has done it. He has made me adore his goodness, that we had [your father] so long. But my God lives; and he has my heart. O what a legacy my husband, and your father, has left us! We are all given to God; and there I am, and love to be. Your affectionate mother, Sarah Edwards. (Marriage to a Difficult Man, by Elizabeth Dodds, p. 196)

Jonathan and Sarah had 11 children and a very loving and unique relationship modeling the love of God toward His creation of mankind and especially the love of Jesus for His bride (the church). Read More

Sarah Edwards, wife of this famous revivalist had felt the everlasting loving arms of Yeshua  her heavenly father wrapped around her.

No matter where we are, what we are going through we can rest assured, our Heavenly Father has us in His precious arms!
