For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12
Preparation for the Battle
When I was a little girl Hurricane Donna hit my hometown like a bulls eye in Sanford, Florida. This storm was the strongest storm to hit Florida since 1935. It originated in Dakar, Africa made her way across the Atlantic Ocean, through S. Florida, Ft. Myers before turning on Central Florida and up the East Coast all the way to Greenland. Donna exited Florida at Daytona Beach on September 11, 1960, She killed 489 people wreaking over $980 million in damage. Today we would be looking at $8,329,668,918.92.
During the eye of the storm, all was quiet and we peeked outside to see downed trees and debris and felt it was safe to let out our German Sheperd “Bootsie” to go to the bathroom. In any hurricane, tornado or cyclone of this strength it is important to remember just because the fury of the first part of the storm has passed, a quiet doesn’t mean the storm has passed. To our dismay it wasn’t long before the second half of fierce Hurricane Donna began to show warning signs to get back to cover as she continued to wreak havoc. The forceful winds now moving in the opposite direction caused us all to take cover inside.
Prayer for the Battle
Our family cried because that was the last time we ever saw our beloved dog Bootsie. We continued to search for her; until we finally had to give up hope. She was lost forever. I know the LORD cries about the souls that are lost in the midst of life’s storms. He wants us to pray for eyes to be opened and lost souls to recognize they need a Savior;
“To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’Acts 26:18
The truth is that without a relationship with God we will be eternally lost if we aren’t saved when a fatal storm comes our way, and our faith is not in Jesus Christ.
When preparing for spiritual battle understand that you are not fighting against an enemy that is fleshy, natural or normal. You are battling against forces of evil that are inhumane, supernatural, and abnormal. The enemy is merciless. By humbly calling on the Lord, to have mercy on us, He is certain to help and enable us to fight those spiritual, physical or emotional battles.
Prepare by filling iour tub with the power and presence of God.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you into all truth, listening to God’s instructions.
Feed yourself on the meat of God’s Word. Read and study daily.
Understand that your weapons are not carnal but they are spiritual and the greatest spiritual weapon you have is God’s love for you and for the world.
Don’t get caught in the eye of the storm without the Holy Spirit!
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16-17
Your ability and strength in spiritual warfare are directly related to your personal relationship with God in all three of His persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
